Grading Stones

When browsing our Semi-Precious and Precious Gemstone Beads, you can assume they are about a Grade B, Natural and UNTREATED unless otherwise specified. Here's an approximation of Grade below, but please keep in mind this varies somewhat by stone. In general, the more expensive the stone, the more acceptable flaws become.

Grade AAA	Flawless, even, bright coloration and beautifully drilled. Top quality and generally quite rare and expensive. Often treated stones seek to mimic this Grade.
Grade AA	Nearly flawless, even bright coloration and beautifully drilled
Grade A	Mostly flawless, bright coloration and very nicely drilled
Grade B	Some flaws, but in general, a nice quality bead with good coloration and evenly drilled
Grade C	Flaws noticeable and/or may not be as bright in coloration and/or drilled a bit off center
Grade D	Very noticeable flaws and/or some uneven or poor coloration and/or poorly drilled or off-round
