Jet Beads

Jet is a soft, opaque black gemstone, easily identified because it is very, very lightweight. Jet is composed of carbonized wood (lignite coal). The material was first found near the River Gages and mentioned by Pliny in Ancient Greece. In German, it is still referred to as Gaget. Sometimes referred to as Black Amber or Witches Amber. While an important gemstone of the past, true Jet is rather difficult to find today. (NOTE: All beads/stones can be assumed to be about a Grade B and UNTREATED, unless otherwise specified)
