Lapis Lazuli Beads

This is NATURAL, untreated Lapis. The BEST Lapis Lazuli is royal blue with almost no pyrite, though it ranges in color from green to sky blue. Probably one of the most faked and dyed of all gemstones the real thing is quite expensive. A lower grade of Lapis, called Denim Lapis is now being mined in Chile, but the best Lapis comes from Afghanistan. Note! Genuine Lapis will always have golden flecks of pyrite, unlike Sodalite, Dumortierite which are often sold as Lapis. Very, very often in the jewelry world, the lower grades are dyed. Luckily, you can check quickly as Lapis does NOT take dye well and it will usually fade easily when rubbed even with plain water. Also known as Lazurite. (NOTE: All stones can be assumed to be about a Grade B and UNTREATED, unless otherwise specified)
