"Tigertail" is the term used for stringing material fashioned from very, very
fine steel cords and is usually secured with
Crimp Beads. It is superior to Silk in stringing semi-precious stones as the stones
tend to fray Silk. A single strand of Tigertail can be 7 strands of very fine steel to up
to 49 strands (the strongest). Use 49 strand for heavy stones such as Hematite,
extra long necklaces which are very heavy. Most designers favor the 19-21 strand,
as this affords nice flexibility and good strength for most projects. The width
comes in percentages of a millimeter. ".012" tests to about 10 lbs, ".014" to about
14 lbs, ".019' to about 26 lbs, and ".024" to around 40 lbs. For instance, ".014 21
strand TigerTail" means the cord will be .014mm thick and be comprised of 21 strands of very, very fine steel.
